When should a windscreen be replaced?

Whether your windscreen is cracked, chipped or scratched, you might be wondering if it needs to be replaced. While these can all impede vision and make driving difficult, there are only certain circumstances which require a windscreen to be completely replaced. So when should a windscreen be replaced? And why should you choose us here at Red Rose Windscreens?

So, when should a windscreen be replaced?

A windscreen replacement is a necessity in a number of circumstances. These include:

  • Linear cracks- frequently linear cracks in the windscreen cannot be repaired because of the additional fractures from the original site. If this crack is in the drivers side of the vehicle, it is highly likely that it cannot be repaired, and instead your windscreen will need to be replaced.
  • Damage in the drivers line of sight– Damage on the drivers side of the vehicle windscreen means that your vehicle probably will not pass an MOT. Even small amount of damage here can be problematic, and if this cannot be repaired perfectly, there may be visual disturbances which can be an issue of safety. As a result, a full windscreen replacement is often necessary.
  • Extensive damage- If your windscreen has suffered extensive damage, or a windscreen crack has been allowed to grow and worsen, you may need a full windscreen replacement. This is because the damage will have weakened the structural integrity of the vehicle, and will not be able to be repaired.
